Funny how...

Did this awhile back during a particularly 'blah' day, feeling super uninspired and lacking creativity. I just started doodling and this happened. Looking at it now, it's one of my favorites things in quite awhile...

Look a dinghy! That's a dinghy, right?

It's fitting I recently did this one. It harkens back to my days as a rugged sailor, manhandling the seven seas. We used to pillage and plunder as well, but only when the rum ran out. What's that? I was never any of that, you say?? Oh no, you're right.
But I still wear the eye patch to remind me of that vicious nor'easter I stared down in the bathtub.

Current project

For the past few months as time allows, I've been working on a personal project. This is a story I had written years ago in college for a children's book class. It never went beyond the dummy book and a few 'finished' pages. I've always loved the story (tho its nothing groundbreaking) and wanted to see it fleshed out further.
One great thing about the current digital age is the ability to produce and publish work that normally wouldn't see the light of day. I wanted to get this story out even if just for friends and family but, at the same time, was realistic in knowing that publishing it wasn't viable. That's when it hit me: a storybook app. So all that said, here a few images from that project.

I'm surprisingly happy with the way it's turning out. Some of the image are not as detailed as I would normally like but I have to keep in mind the final output and viewing size. Too much information/over-rendering would potentially get confusing. I hope to have the illustrations done by early spring and the app itself available sometime early summer. We'll see!

Shinya

Here's a recent drawing of motorcycle builder Shinya Kimura. He's one of those guys that oozes cool and I've been itching to draw him since he has such an intriguing look. That and he looks very much like my grandfather. He too was pretty awesome.

Pardon the dust

I've decided to dust off the ol' blog. Not sure how much it'll get used but trying to get myself in the habit of doing so. I often find myself doing misc art that doesn't have a place so this will be the 'holding cell.' Also, pushing to put myself and my work out there without a little more reckless abandon.
Anyway, for now here's a skeleton and his guitar. He's quite proud of it. It's sultry chords have charmed many of the undead ladies.
